ALERT: Dry Dog Food FDA Recall: Vitamin D Toxicity. What began a couple months ago as a limited dry dog food recall due to excess Vitamin D detection in a few dry dog food brands has expanded.
The FDA has officially issued a dry dog food recall for several brands of dry dog food affected with excessive levels of Vitamin D. Television alerts running from coast to coast are warning pet owners and veterinarians alike to stop feeding these dry dog foods immediately and for pet owners to contact their veterinarian should their dog become violently ill and/or show any signs of excess Vitamin D.
Signs of Excess Vitamin D can cause signs in dogs ranging from increased thirst and increased urination to drooling, vomiting, lethargy and appetite loss in addition to weight loss. In addition, recent reports include many dogs becoming violently ill. Excess Vitamin D can cause kidney failure, cancer, and death in canines.
